Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Bananas
  • 1 1/4 cups Flour
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup Oil
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk (or milk)
  • 1/3 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 1/4 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (divided)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease or line a 10×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Mash the bananas in a bowl until mostly smooth.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter, oil, brown sugar, and sugar for 3-4 minutes. Scrape the sides of the bowl halfway through. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in mashed bananas, sour cream, buttermilk, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt, then stir into the wet mixture until just combined. Mix in 1 cup of chocolate chips, reserving 1/4 cup for the top.
  5. Let the batter rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with the reserved chocolate chips. Bake for 50-55 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Use a knife to loosen the edges from the pan.

Notes

Ensure bananas are very ripe for the best flavor.
For a deeper chocolate flavor, add more cocoa powder if desired.
Experiment with other mix-ins like nuts or dried fruit.
